This blog is a journal about Western Culture and American Power, both of which are needed during this time of clashing civilizations and the growing relationship between violence and culture. The contributions of Western Civilization have been undeniably positive. The concepts of capitalism, personal freedom, equality, democracy, responsible government, the rule of law, human rights, rational inquiry, science and technology, religious tolerance (made possible by Christianity) and self-determination are all products of The Western Experience.
The Western Experience has made the West (The U.S. in particular) the freest, wealthiest, most advanced and most powerful civilization in history. But the triumphs of the West are not secure unless Westerners are determined to preserve their culture and values. If we are indifferent to the slow degradation of our culture and its values then we will eventually lose our way of life. It becomes only a matter of time. As Arnold Tonybee admonished “Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder.”
