Who’s Outraged?

Certainly not I. Would I have done it? Probably not. Then again, it does look like a lot of fun. I wonder if the US and Taliban will now hold piss talks?

When I asked my wife for her thoughts she said dead bodies should be respected. The body is separate from the soul.

So why not pee on them while their still alive, I ask. I mean its not like we’re sawing their heads off.

No foul as long as it doesn’t make it on CNN, she says.

Great point. And I believe that is the lesson.

I thought Islam required the bodies of the dead to be washed – Jeez, there`s just no pleasing these people.

  2. Zachriel says:

    Desecrating bodies is a crime.

  3. Rick says:

So is crashing planes into buildings full of CIVILIANS, beheading CIVILIANS, sodomizing children, bombing church`s, bars, cafe`s, and city bus`s, slitting children,s throats in their sleep etc., etc.

  4. Mike Elliot says:

I really don’t care either. However, this does go against the doctrine of the US military as a whole and I would think is punishable by the UCMJ’s punitive articles. And if there isn’t any precedent, then there is always General Article 134, the catch all.

  5. Jason says:

Oh definitely punishable. And they got caught doing it. So, therefore, they must pay.

But again, do I care that they did it? Nope.

  6. J Roycroft says:

I also blogged about this. Yes what they did was wrong but has anyone stopped to think about what those soldiers experience during a combat mission. Remember when the Islamic Taliban scum drug our soldiers naked dead bodies through the streets and then posted them on the internet? Or the many be-headings they committed. How about when my warrior brothers with the Blackwater unit were hung from the overpass and left to hang for days before their bodies could be recovered. The soldiers who pissed on those dead Islamic scum will be punished as they should, but people need to try and understand what those young soldiers, most between 18 and 26 years old, have been through. Pissing on dead Islamic scum will never compare to the atrocities witnessed by our young soldiers.

  7. Harvey Steerle says:

clueless civilians never faced an enemy that would torture prisoners and defile bodies, let alone try to kill you.
give the men punishment under Article 15. NJP.

you have to out terror the terrorists.
use pigs to sniff out bombs.
they have a superior scent recognition and are more intelligent than dogs.
and the enemy will do everything possible to AVOID them.

  10. Uh, this post is a joke, right? You really can’t see how this does not help us win wars? I would suggest reading Field Manual 3-24 for starters and then moving on to “Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam” by Col John Nagl.

Beyond that, a few obvious points: A fundamental tenant of ethics 101 is that two wrongs don’t make a right. So just because Islamic-inspired terrorists attacked us doesn’t mean we can do something wrong back to them. Second, not all Muslims are terrorists or sympathize in any shape, way, or form, with terrorism so “they” did not all attack us. Three, while we cannot and must not expect our troops to be Boy Scouts we can and must demand better behavior from them than this.

I also expected more from this blog. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, and trust I have a reason to come back.

    Tom,

You are free to come and go. I hate that you put it that way though. I always found your comments and writings insightful.

But listen, I never referred to Muslims as a whole anywhere in the post. I referred to the Taliban. I also said, the Marines certainly deserve to be punished, hopefully a non-judiciary punishment under the UCMJ.

But, I cannot deny by reaction, or lack thereof. I didn’t lose one second of sleep over it and the act did not change my outlook or opinion of our Marines or any other branch of service. I think a lot of people, I feel including you, are a little naive. This stuff happens. It shouldn’t be a surprise. The last thing we need to do is jump all over it as some kind of crime. They got caught and will be punished. End of story.

That type of hyper-sensitivity and sensationalism leads to SEALs being brought up on charges for getting a little rough with a detainee.
