American Ideologies: what they are, what they do, what they mean

Since each ideology, in this case conservatism and liberalism, are predisposed to certain factors that dictate their goals, it stands to reason that each have different agendas and methods in which to carry out those goals. Neither wants inequality, less freedoms (though the kind of freedom differs), lack of education for children etc. Each wants to promote the general welfare of people, facilitate the promise of opportunity, and to raise the standard of living for each new generation — flawed policies aside. Meeting these goals, however, often involve different methods. The two find themselves operating in a system of competition — with only one winner at a time — and during the natural ebb and flow of American political history have impacted American politics and society dramatically.
