Citizens against the Leviathan: Where will the Tea Party protests lead?

As popular and successful as it was, it remains to be seen what or if anything will come of this grassroots citizen activism against big government and big spending. Only results will determine the outcome. Will the protests revitalize the … Continue reading

Surrender at Appomattox and the generalship and characters of Grant and Lee

(Note: I am ongoing student of history and, as a Southerner, a fan of Civil War history in particular. I wanted to put something together for the month of April telling of the surrender of Lee’s Army of Northern … Continue reading

Tea Parties, Tea Parties and more Tea Parties. Plus, the many reactions from across America.

I went to the one here in Augusta, Ga. It was a little laid back but I did get to hear Congressman (R) Paul Broun speak. Over all it was respectful, classy, and simply provided an outlet for disgruntled, concerned, … Continue reading

Dissent, debate, and being apart of the loyal opposition is now labeled as ‘rightwing extremist activity’

No, that charge isn’t coming from someone whom you may disagree with over politics and policy. That is coming straight from a report released by Department of Homeland Security.  The Washington Times reports: (See also Townhall and Foxnews for more) … Continue reading

A proper rebuttal to a New York Times editorial, ‘End of the Clash of Civilizations.’

A very disturbing display of empty-headedness was published over the weekend in a New York Times editorial, titled, “End of the Clash of Civilizations.” In summary, the document of naiveté worked very hard (excluding any evidence, citations, or opinion from others) to show that President Obama effectively ended the Clash of Civilizations because of his recent speech (notably in Istanbul, Turkey), and awesome powers.

The author breathlessly praised President Obama for steering “away from the poisonous post-9/11 clash of civilizations mythology that drove so much of President George W. Bush’s rhetoric and disastrous policy.” The author continued heaping on the praise over a line in the president’s speech in which he reassured those in the Muslim world that America is not at war with Islam. This was brought out in comparison to President Bush and his “Republican allies” habits of using the word “crusade” (I can’t find an example, therefore, I bet this was taken grossly out of context or said by someone else and the author took liberty to attribute it to President Bush) and referring to our enemies as “Islamic fascists.” Fittingly, the author followed up with the ridiculous claim that America will now deal with the Muslim countries from the side of respect and mutual interests. We will start doing more than just kill their terrorist. We will seek cooperation. President Obama and the author both were a bit disingenuous to be kind. To say that America has behaved or adopted policies otherwise is false and, in fact, is a lie. To those that buy into this nonsense certainly they have not been paying much attention to what the Muslim world has received from America in general, and under the helm of President Bush in particular. Continue reading

How are these pirates becoming so successful?

I’ve wondered the same myself. Elizabeth Dickinson writing at Passport – a blog for Foreign Policy — delves into the matter. With an American hostage on board being threatened to be killed if a ransom isn’t paid, I think it … Continue reading

Those rotten Bush Tax Cuts and the Richy Riches who benefit from them — Revisited

The terms “Bush Tax Cuts” for the rich and “middle class tax burdens” have been all the rage in political discourse. In fact, it has become synonymous with greed that brought on America’s economic recession. The tax cuts have even been accused … Continue reading

President Obama’s campaign against America

It did not go unnoticed to many Americans that the president went beyond flatter and public niceties to our European cousins. His speeches and remarks were tantamount to apologizing for America’s leadership, resolve, and success in defending democracy, freedom and liberty. All the things … Continue reading

The coming decline of Obama’s presidency?

I have an essay up over at Politics and Critical Thinking discussing the potential danger of President Obama’s decision to tackle amnesty amidst his other priorities that are presenting him some challenges. The essay is called, “And so begins the decline of the … Continue reading

Some on the left jumping from the Obama train?
