Is it 1848 in Europe again?

In France, the eight largest unions joined forces to strike, and convince the government to do more for their union for the workers of France and to lower unemployment. The results of the union hijacking resulted in generally making life difficult … Continue reading

Europe is not doing the people of Palestine any favors with weak compromises

The European Union has sent a very troubling signal to Iran, Israel, America and the war ravaged people of Gaza. That message is that it may prove difficult and too time consuming to stay focused on agreement of principles between Western powers. Israel’s thrashing of Hamas will prove little if certain Western powers accept and approve Hamas as a legitimate player in Gaza. I’m sure the Iranian government and Hamas approve and appreciate friends like the EU. One government that isn’t amused to be sure is the American government. Javier Solana’s remarks contradict what the Obama administration, and the Bush administration before him, laid out for Hamas to accept. Continue reading

What the Russians thought of Obama’s inauguration and early presidency. Amusing, but In the end who cares what they think?

Despite the overly anti-Americanism coming from the Reds, one thing did dawn on me as I read this…I had forgotten what objective, pragmatic journalism looks like. Continue reading

The verdict is out on the stimulus package, and many economist are not buying it.

Skeptics to the Obama/Democrat stimulus package whether they be professional, political or otherwise, have been considered opposition forces and simply labeled as naysayers by the supporters of the bill. The truth of the matter is that there are many qualified professionals who have studied economics and the American economy for decades who came to different conclusions on the merits of the stimulus package. Continue reading

International aid to Palestinians proves to support terror and violence, not relief and recovery.

The practice of pouring vast amounts of money into Palestine only works to finance and supports violence, radical Islam, terror and poverty in Gaza. Palestine has developed into an international welfare state perfectly suited for Hamas and the PA to continue terrorist operations against Israel and internal violence against their own opposition. As the linked article suggest, there is a direct connection with the fact that the Palestinians now receive more assistance, per capita, than any other place on Earth, while living in one of the most violent spaces in it. Despite the effusion of foreign aid, Palestinian productivity has declined and has increased suffering and hardship of the Palestinian people. Hamas is largely to blame by remaining overly hostile to Israel (Gaza’s largest trading partner) and launching rockets and provoking devastating responses that only further cripples the fragile society. Continue reading

Can politicians in Washington be trusted to fix the economy?

In just a few days, Washington Democrats and, no doubt some Republicans too, will agree upon and will pass the largest fiscal stimulus bill in history. It is believed to be some where in the neighborhood of $825 billion to $1 trillion U.S. dollars. So what is at stake, what has been learned, and more importantly will it work? Continue reading

Vatican waste no time in going after Obama over abortion. Does the pro-life movement still have a fight?

There is no doubt the pro-life movement has experienced a major setback, first, with the election of Barack Obama and, secondly, with his decision to repeal U.S. funding for international abortion agencies. The executive and legislative branches of the … Continue reading

Are we still a nation at war or a nation in limbo?

The Global War on Terror — former President Bush launched it, defined it, defended it, and carried it out almost entirely on the back of American power with an immeasurable resolve. President Obama this week effectively ended it all with a simple stroke from his pen, a few flashes from cameras, and a few words spoken about the change in direction of our country in international affairs. However, none of those words uttered were the ones, the War on Terror. Continue reading

Funny you said that Mr. President because Iran does have preconditions

During the campaign President Obama said he would meet with Iran’s leaders and offer economic incentives if Iran shaped up, stopped interfering in Iraq and cooperated on terrorism and nuclear issues. If these changes in behavior were met, Obama said that he … Continue reading

Iraq religious based parties are in decline as people look for unity over sectarianism

“Religious parties didn’t keep their promises. They exploited our problems. The voter must be more careful this time, and vote for someone who is deserving.” This rebuke came from Saffa Kadhim a teacher from Basra who like many others find inadequate … Continue reading

President Obama closing Gitmo; where do the terrorist go?

The new President wasted little time in one of his first acts in office which was the decision to halt Gitmo operations and sent a signal that this could be the first step towards closing the prison. But, the one big question remains…where do we send the two hundred plus terrorist? These prisoners are unlawful enemy combatants and “the worst of the worst” who have sought the death of Americans, including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, one of the masterminds of 9/11. We now know of at least 60 cases where some of these prisoners have been returned to their homeland only to later be killed or captured while trying attack American and coalitions forces again. Continue reading
